Trainee Teacher Opportunity - Inspire Learning in Cranleigh! Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of autistic pupils? A specialist school in Cranleigh is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual for the role of Trainee CABAS Teacher (known externally as SEN Teaching Assistant) to join their committed team. This vital role involves supporting autistic pupils within a specialist environment. You will use behaviourally based instruction and positive reinforcement techniques to accelerate learning. This role involves working within small classes, either in a group or on a 1:1 basis, using specialised support plans.

Job Responsibility:

  • Providing teaching and support, following individualised curriculums
  • Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons and activities to develop pupils' academic, social, and emotional skills
  • Providing behaviourally based instruction to help pupils achieve their full potential, adhering to established behaviour guidelines
  • Encouraging acceptable levels of personal and environmental hygiene, and providing personal care (toileting, feeding) as needed
  • Contributing to curricular and teaching materials, attending staff meetings, and taking part in extra-curricular and off-site activities
  • Progressing your own development through practical and theoretical training to enhance your understanding and practice of teaching duties, and developing your knowledge of autism spectrum disorders

Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade C/4 GCSE, or equivalent, in English Language & Maths
  • Professional, personal, or voluntary experience working with children and disabilities
  • Ability to keep calm in high pressure situations and comfortable working with children who exhibit challenging behaviour
  • Comfortable supporting others with personal/intimate care where required
  • Able to perform tasks of a physical nature (often demanding), including twisting, stooping, and working at a lower height
  • A strong commitment to our regular professional development programme and training
  • An understanding and personal commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
