Job Description

At MSV Housing we’re committed to making sure our customers have good‑quality, safe homes, and our Trainee Neighbourhood Officers are key to making this happen. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual with strong people and communication skills to join our established team. Reporting to our Neighbourhood Team Leader, our Trainee Neighbourhood Officers support the delivery of effective tenancy, property and neighbourhood management services while developing the skills needed for the role. You will help ensure services are responsive, efficient and customer‑focused by building a clear understanding of our homes, tenants and communities. Acting as a visible presence in our neighbourhoods, you will support customer engagement, assist in resolving issues, and contribute to maximising rental income and meeting regulatory standards. We’re seeking someone with a genuine passion for advocating on behalf of people and communities, and a desire to learn and grow within a housing management career.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage a neighbourhood patch in line with legislation and MSV policies by delivering a holistic People–Property–Place service, carrying out tenancy visits, inspections, and addressing estate or tenancy‑related issues while prioritising customer safety
  • Support effective tenancy and income management by building strong landlord–tenant relationships, managing arrears (including high‑level arrears, court work and evictions), and working closely with Income, Financial Resilience and Sustainment teams to help customers maintain successful tenancies
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams (Lettings, ASB, Property Care, Customer Voice) and external partners to minimise void loss, resolve neighbourhood issues, deliver community engagement activities, and contribute to the Neighbourhood Strategy and wider MSV initiatives
  • Ensure excellent customer service and compliance by meeting regulatory standards, promoting MSV’s WOW standards, following safeguarding, health and safety and data‑protection requirements, and representing MSV professionally at all times
  • Provide accurate reporting, information and data to managers, contribute to value for money, participate in learning and development, and remain flexible in undertaking other duties to meet business and community needs

Requirements

  • A good standard of education, including a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above, including Maths and English, and a willingness to work towards a professional Housing Management qualification
  • The ability to manage and prioritise a demanding workload, meet deadlines, work under pressure, and use Microsoft Office confidently
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and listening skills, with the ability to engage professionally with a wide range of people and show respect, kindness and compassion
  • A strong customer‑focused attitude, taking accountability for service delivery, understanding and empathising with diverse customer needs, and contributing positively to excellent customer service
  • Personal qualities including being self‑motivated, flexible, positive, enthusiastic, creative, reflective and open to change, with a commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel across the Northwest, with the ability to represent MSV professionally and support the wellbeing of yourself and colleagues

What we offer

  • Flexibility on where you work with home working kit provided
  • 33 days holiday per year plus bank holidays, and a holiday buy scheme
  • Company pension scheme with up to 10% matched contributions
  • Company funded access to a health cash plan, where you can claim back costs of everyday health treatments such as optical, dental and much more
  • Enhanced sick pay with up to 3 months full pay and 3 months half pay
  • Health and Wellbeing Support including an employee assistance programme, free counselling, mental health first aiders and numerous wellbeing initiatives
  • Life assurance subject to being a member of our company pension scheme
  • Learning and development to support you to develop the skills you need to fulfil your role and progress in your career
  • Commitment to Equality and Inclusion with employee network groups covering anti-racism, LGBTQ+, disability and long-term health conditions, carers, and menopause
