Job Description:

We’re looking for a motivated Trainee Line Mechanic to join our Contracting team at Northpower. As a Trainee Line Mechanic, you’ll support our crews in the construction and maintenance of overhead electrical lines. You’ll receive ongoing training, mentoring, and development opportunities while completing block courses and working toward industry recognised qualifications. This is a physical, outdoors role where no two days are the same. You’ll learn how to safely operate equipment, work at heights, and contribute to building and maintaining essential network infrastructure.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assisting with the construction and maintenance of electrical lines to meet customer and network requirements
  • Learning to develop work plans for overhead lines and equipment
  • Operating ground and structure‑mounted electrical equipment up to 33kV (with training)
  • Installing, replacing, and maintaining poles, structures, and conductors
  • Overhauling non‑load-bearing hardware on networks up to 110kV
  • Completing block courses and unit standards on time
  • Supporting the team with accurate paperwork, including inspections and incident reports
  • Working safely while upholding Northpower’s quality, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Looking after issued tools, PPE, and equipment
  • Contributing to team productivity, positive customer experiences, and continuous improvement
