Incumbent will monitor, maintain adjust, and repair building specialty systems owned or leased by the Medical University Hospital Authority in order to ensure safety, environmental control and economy of mechanical, electrical, systems. Incumbent should have a working knowledge of Med Air Compressors, Vacuum Pumps, Domestic Water Pumps, and Fire Protection Pumps. The incumbent will, on a rotating basis, be on call for one week and work a scheduled weekend shift. Incumbent is Considered Essential Personnel in a disaster
Job Responsibility
Monitor, maintain adjust, and repair building specialty systems owned or leased by the Medical University Hospital Authority in order to ensure safety, environmental control and economy of mechanical, electrical, systems
Maintain Personal Protection Equipment properly and turn in for replacement any worn or broken equipment
Wear Personal Protection Equipment as needed by the activity
Provide and maintain a safe working environment for themselves and for staff and public around them
Adhere to all requirements regarding infection control for the protection of patients and staff when in sterile, or biohazard areas
Report any unsafe situation to members of Facility Management immediately
Must be able to interact with staff and coworkers in courteous professional manner
Must be clean, neat and perform work in a neat professional workman like manner
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing to customers and staff regarding information such as Trouble Call Tickets, Daily Equipment Logs, Time Sheets, Parts Requests and other day-to-day documents
On a rotating basis, be available to respond to emergency after hours and weekend duty to make essential system repairs
As needed, work overtime if the job requires completing a task
Stay at the facility during weather or disaster emergencies as required to maintain the Hospital to function during these times
Respond to trouble calls as directed
Make contact with requestor to determine need
Make repairs, adjustments or calibration in order to resolve problem and using this information will be able to make machine adjustments and trouble shoot possible mechanical issue failures
Document all activities including parts and supplies used
Interface with vendor technical support personnel and use maintenance manuals, schematics, and diagrams as needed to resolve operational problems
Make temporary repairs as needed until problem can be fixed correctly
Perform routine scheduled maintenance of specialty systems as required by the Facility Management system
Test equipment safeties and function on essential systems as required by the Facility Management system and or agency requirements such as DHEC or JCAHO
Perform routine systems checks daily on all essential equipment
The incumbent will record activities in daily equipment logs and using this information to make machine adjustments and troubleshoot possible mechanical issue or failures
Document maintenance activities performed on equipment on appropriate forms and maintenance records
Interface with vendor technical support personnel and use maintenance manuals, schematics and diagrams as needed to resolve operational problems
Make temporary repairs as needed until problem can be fixed correctly
As directed, perform daily routine equipment checks on reciprocating and centrifugal air compressors, vacuum pumps, water & fuel pumps, industrial steam type water heaters, and specialty water purification systems at the beginning of each shift
Make adjustments to equipment as dictated by daily readings to maintain comfort of building occupants
Assess alarm conditions and determine if condition requires immediate response
May require you to perform trouble shooting to identify failures and make repairs and notify dispatcher as needed
Document all daily equipment checks as directed
Reset equipment and clear alarms as needed
Have a working knowledge of industrial equipment and their control systems, follow wiring diagrams, schematics in maintenance and repair manuals
Have a good understanding of industrial engineering practices
Requirements
A high school diploma and three years trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment
Some positions require a commercial driver's license
Some positions require EPA-approved freon recovery certification
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license
Ability to obtain and maintain EPA Approved Freon recovery certification
