Job Description:

The town of Plymouth seeks qualified applicants for the position of TOWN SURVEYOR in the Engineering division for the department of Public Works.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performs complex calculations and engineering analysis to determine and/or establish the location of property lines and calculations relating to horizontal and vertical control and other coordinate geometry
  • stamps, signs and takes responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of land surveying plans and projects of the Division
  • reviews survey information and plans submitted to the town for compliance with the state, town and departmental laws, rules and regulations
  • provides leadership and support in areas of engineering software, field computers and related equipment as well as maintaining Geographic Informational Systems (GIS) base station and mobile equipment
  • provides expertise in GIS, handles daily requests for creation of a wide variety of GIS maps requiring the multidisciplinary knowledge of engineering functions, data base functions and as needed basic computer programming skills.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field with a minimum of five years surveying experience
  • design and/or field construction experience in municipal public works projects, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • special requirements include registration as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in Massachusetts, or Surveyor in Training with the requirement to obtain a PLS within 12 months of appointment, and a Massachusetts Class D Driver’s license required.
