Job Description:

The town of Bolton, an AAA-rated community of ~5,500 residents and a member of the Nashoba Regional School District, seeks an experienced municipal finance professional to serve as Town Accountant. This 32-hour a week position (M-Th) serves as the town’s statutory accounting officer and is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of the town’s financial operations. The Town Accountant exercises independent authority over expenditure approval and financial record-keeping and leads all core accounting functions including general ledger management, financial reporting, audit coordination, and preparation of required state submissions. The position is a central partner in the town’s financial management structure, working on budget development, financial strategy, and long-range planning.   • Monitors revenue activity to ensure budgetary compliance
  • Reviews Treasurer’s receipts and Collector’s turnovers for proper accounting
  • Processes year-end tax form 1099s for vendors
  • Production of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for state agencies
  • Prepares required financial reporting to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, including: Schedule A, Balance sheet – Free Cash certification, Statutory financial submissions
  • Assist in preparation of the Tax Recapitulation
