In this role as THRIVE Sport and Activity Coach, you are responsible for planning and implementing the THRIVE sport and activity programme in conjunction with the Children’s Activities Manager. You will lead sessions across our Havant and Waterlooville sites, within the community and in local schools. Your role is to ensure that the sports and activities are enjoyable and safe for all participants and that they run smoothly. You will also create an environment of cooperation between all staff, parents and pupils.
Job Responsibility:
Plan, prepare, and lead an engaging programme of sports and activities in conjunction with the Children’s Activity Manager
Deliver high-quality sessions with the child at the centre of everything
Teach Physical Education and Physical Activity within allocated schools
Plan, prepare, and deliver schemes of work and coaching programmes in accordance with academic programmes set out by the schools and our THRIVE programme
Make sessions fun, engaging, and challenging
Ensure good standards of Health and Safety are always maintained
Safeguard the welfare and protection of children in accordance with the Safeguarding Policy
Ensure that all sports equipment and materials are in place for the start of each week/session
Feedback regularly to the Children’s Activity Manager
Deal quickly and effectively with queries regarding activities
Maintain accident and damage records
Maintain and be responsible for all sports equipment, materials, and registers
Wear Horizon/THRIVE branded uniform at all times
Always maintain a professional manner in all dealings with children, parents, and staff
Maintain current knowledge of National Curriculum, Governing Body, and other relevant agencies, programmes, policies, guidance, and advice
Orchestrate an array of games, sporting activities, and art sessions tailored to our members aged between 5 and 16
Requirements:
An experienced, qualified teacher, NQT or hold a minimum UKCC Level 2 coach qualification (or equivalent)
Experience and understanding of the National Curriculum and working with children in Key Stages 1 and 2
Knowledge and understanding of: Planning and delivery of high-quality PE and sports activities
Knowledge and understanding of: Fundamental Movement Skills
Knowledge and understanding of: Health and safety in sport
Knowledge and understanding of: Child protection in sport
Have at least 2 years’ experience in a sporting role
Understanding of and commitment to partnership working and communication
Experience, confidence and competence to delivery high quality PE lessons
Prior experience in a comparable children or young people’s setting is a prerequisite for this role
A sincere passion and enthusiasm for creating enjoyable and engaging experiences for children
Dedication to fostering a positive environment
A genuine passion for nurturing, boundless enthusiasm, and a deep affection for working with children and young people
Adeptness in thinking on your feet, coupled with the ability to provide highly enjoyable experiences
Experience of working within: Physical Education especially around Key Stages 1 and 2
Experience of working within: SEN groups
Experience of working within: Sports Development (Sports Clubs, School-Club Links)
A good understanding of IT
