Job Description:

Amegreen Children's Services is looking for a Therapeutic Practitioner to join Hawthornes, our 4-bed supported accommodation in West Berkshire. Hawthornes supports young people aged 16 and over with social, emotional and mental health needs, in a homely, high-quality environment where they are helped to build independence, strengthen life skills and feel safe as they prepare for adulthood. You will play an important part in creating calm, consistent routines, offering practical guidance and emotional support, and helping young people take positive steps forward. This role suits someone who is steady, caring and confident in keeping clear boundaries, even when things feel challenging.

Job Responsibility:

  • Build genuine, trusting relationships with young people and offer consistent, nurturing support grounded in our therapeutic approach
  • Be a positive role model who is calm, boundaried and steady, especially during difficult moments
  • Support young people to develop independence across life skills, personal care, budgeting and managing their own space
  • Recognise signs of stress, risk or safeguarding concern and respond with care, confidence and the correct procedures
  • Work collaboratively with families and external professionals including social workers, therapists and teachers, always keeping the young person’s wellbeing central
  • Maintain accurate, reflective records and contribute fully to handovers, supervision and team meetings
  • Lone work confidently during evenings, weekends and sleep-ins, maintaining the same standard of care at all times
  • Be a dependable team member who is supportive, open to learning and committed to doing things the right way

Requirements:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare
  • Experience and/or a strong understanding of working with young people in a residential setting
  • A good understanding of adolescent development and how trauma, loss or instability can impact behaviour and wellbeing
  • A clear commitment to safeguarding, professional boundaries and child protection procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confident recording
  • The ability to stay calm under pressure, manage conflict appropriately and accept constructive feedback
  • Flexibility to work unsociable hours including public holidays, and confidence with lone working and sleep-ins
  • A resilient, self-aware and positive approach
  • IT confidence, including Microsoft Office
  • Experience using electronic recording systems (or willingness to learn quickly)
What we offer:
  • Life insurance (death in service) – 4x basic annual salary
  • Health cash plan (Health Shield) – after probation, eligibility applies
  • Training and development – induction and mandatory training, plus CPD, therapeutic support and further qualifications
  • Free holiday accommodation – company holiday home on the south coast
  • Discounts – Blue Light Card and local partner discounts
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) – free, confidential 24/7 support helpline
  • Referral bonus scheme – financial incentives for successful referrals (criteria apply)
  • Company pension with an award-winning provider and enhanced employer contributions
  • Company sick pay scheme – after 6 months’ service
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Recognition – Employee of the Month and long service awards
  • Discounted driving lessons with a local instructor
