Previous, demonstrable classroom support experience (paid or voluntary) supporting children or young people with complex and varied SEN, such as Autism (ASC) or Learning Difficulties (SLD/MLD)

Job Responsibility

Provide tailored, direct support to named pupils, meticulously implementing their Individual Learning, Communication, and Therapeutic Targets as outlined in their EHCP
Assist the class teacher in preparing and adapting a highly differentiated curriculum, utilising visual supports, sensory resources, and low-tech communication aids to ensure accessibility for all learners
Employ effective de-escalation and positive reinforcement strategies to manage sensory regulation challenges and instances of distress constructively, promoting a safe environment
Facilitate and support the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods, such as PECS, Makaton, or communication boards, as required by the students
Act as a key worker and reliable adult, helping students navigate the school day, particularly during transitions and unstructured times, reinforcing consistent routines
Assist pupils with personal care needs where required (e.g., toileting, feeding), maintaining dignity and professional standards at all times
Maintain accurate, professional records of pupil progress, sensory needs, and incidents for EHCP reviews and professional discussions
Collaborate effectively with class teachers, therapists (e.g., Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy), and parents/carers to ensure a holistic approach to student development
