About the Role This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated and passionate Textiles Teacher to join a highly successful Design and Technology department on a full-time starting ASAP. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, engaging lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level). This third-person role requires a specialist who can seamlessly blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design methodologies, ensuring all pupils-whatever their individual context or starting point-are challenged to achieve excellence. From managing a busy, machinery-safe classroom to curating vibrant displays of student work, this role is central to the school's rich creative curriculum. Job Responsibility

  • Lesson Delivery: Plan and execute innovative, high-quality practical and theoretical lessons for students aged 11 to 18
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce rigorous health and safety standards in the textiles room, ensuring safe handling of shears, irons, and electrical machinery
  • Portfolio Guidance: Mentor examination cohorts through the intensive process of producing comprehensive design portfolios and final major pieces
  • Progress Tracking: Regularly assess, record, and report on student progress, utilizing data to implement targeted intervention groups where necessary
  • Resource Management: Oversee the inventory of fabrics, threads, dyes, and tools, collaborating with the department technician to order materials efficiently
  • Exhibition Creation: Organise visual displays and end-of-year exhibitions to celebrate student achievements and promote the subject within the wider school
  • Pastoral Support: Fulfil the duties of a Form Tutor, supporting the pastoral care, well-being, and character development of a designated student group
  • Extracurricular Enrichment: Run after-school clubs, catch-up workshops, or fashion initiatives to broaden opportunities beyond the classroom
  • Parental Engagement: Attend parents' evenings, open days, and departmental meetings to discuss student trajectory and options choices
  • Professional Development: Actively participate in continuous professional development (CPD) and whole-school training initiatives

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification
  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one)
  • Subject Passion: A demonstrable enthusiasm for the subject that aligns with the school's high-reaching academic ambitions
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK
  • Advanced Textile Techniques: Proficiency in pattern cutting, garment construction, tailoring, embellishment, and fabric manipulation
  • Curriculum Knowledge: Deep understanding of the UK National Curriculum, specifically AQA or GCSE and A-Level Design & Technology (Textiles) frameworks
  • Differentiated Instruction: Ability to adapt complex practical tasks for mixed-ability classes, ensuring both high-achievers and SEN pupils thrive
  • Digital Literacy: Skill in using CAD/CAM software, digital embroidery machinery, and interactive smartboards to modernise traditional textile lessons
  • Classroom Management: Excellent capability in maintaining a safe, structured, and focused workshop environment during practical, high-movement lessons
  • Formative Assessment: Sharp analytical skills to provide constructive, actionable verbal and written feedback on technical portfolios

  • Facilitate cross-cultural exchange through partnerships that strengthen ties between the Museum, Boston, and Japan, while expanding program visibility and community involvement
  • Serve as a point of contact for the Japan Program volunteers, supporting the coordination of volunteers
