We are looking for an EMS Subject Matter Expert & Quality Assurance Lead to support a utility client by leading the technical execution and quality assurance efforts for an enterprise EMS (Energy Management System) upgrade. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining QA processes while ensuring system reliability, accuracy, and performance across all phases of the upgrade lifecycle. This position will work across multiple technical areas, influencing solution design, testing strategy, and implementation while collaborating closely with internal teams, vendors, and client stakeholders.
Job Responsibility
Lead technical execution of EMS upgrades, including installation, configuration, migration, testing, and post-cutover support
Develop and execute comprehensive QA strategies, test plans, and validation processes across all testing phases (FAT, SAT, etc.)
Perform system troubleshooting, defect identification, root cause analysis, and remediation support
Validate EMS integrations, including ICCP interfaces, real-time data flows, telemetry, and system communications
Support development and upgrade of custom EMS-related applications, ensuring compatibility and performance
Maintain detailed technical documentation including test plans, defect logs, and configuration records
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, IT, operations, vendors) to ensure alignment and project success
Act as a technical liaison between stakeholders and vendors (e.g., AspenTech/OSI), ensuring clear communication and delivery
Identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies to ensure system stability and project timelines
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent experience)
8–12+ years of relevant experience in EMS/SCADA systems, QA, or related technical engineering environments
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with OSI Monarch EMS systems and architecture
Strong experience supporting SCADA/EMS environments in utility control center operations
Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive test plans across EMS platforms and custom applications
Experience performing FAT/SAT testing, system validation, and regression testing
Hands-on experience with EMS technologies including: SCADA, GMS/EMS, FEP, ICCP interfaces and real-time data systems, and RTU communication protocols (DNP3, Modbus)
Experience with OSI Monarch modules (e.g., OpenNet, State Estimation, Contingency Analysis)
Strong troubleshooting skills with ability to identify root causes and drive resolution
Experience working in NERC CIP-regulated environments
Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams
Ability to operate independently and lead complex technical efforts from day one
Nice to have
Experience with EMS upgrades using OSI Monarch within the past 5 years
Familiarity with CAISO or ISO/RTO market integrations and WEIM
Experience with OpenAAR (Ambient Adjusted Ratings) or similar technologies
Experience with AspenTech / OSI services environments
Exposure to ADMS, DERMS, or Distribution Automation systems
Knowledge of cybersecurity standards within utility environments
Experience with OpenHIS (PostgreSQL), Oracle databases, OSISoft PI, CHRONUS
Proficiency in SQL, Linux shell scripting, and Windows/Linux environments
Familiarity with SEL RTAC, EIDE/EITK, or related control systems
