Are you motivated by community impact, meaningful work, and supporting people to thrive in their homes? Gillespie Recruitment are delighted to be working on behalf of a values‑driven, community‑focused housing and regeneration organisation in Sunderland to recruit a Tenant & Lettings Officer. This is a rewarding opportunity for a housing professional who is passionate about people, communities, and creating positive, lasting change. This role sits at the heart of a local housing service that goes beyond traditional lettings – supporting residents to sustain tenancies, access wider support, and feel genuinely at home in their community.

Job Responsibility:

  • Maintaining accurate housing records and documentation
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with tenants
  • Supporting residents to resolve challenges and maintain housing stability
  • Linking tenants to wider support services and community initiatives
  • Taking a proactive approach to neighbourhood wellbeing and safety
  • Working closely with internal teams to deliver joined-up services
  • Contributing to a customer-focused, supportive housing service
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and tenant experience

Requirements:

  • Experience working in housing, lettings, or the rented sector
  • Strong understanding of tenancy management and resident support
  • Confidence working directly with tenants and addressing housing challenges
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy, people-focused role
  • Passionate about housing, community, and social impact
  • Empathetic, approachable, and solution-focused
  • Proactive and motivated, with a strong sense of purpose
  • Committed to fairness, inclusion, and high standards of service
  • Enjoys seeing tangible results from their work
What we offer:
  • Flexible part-time role (20 hours per week)
  • 28 days annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays
  • Flexible working / TOIL system
  • Death in Service benefit (subject to length of service)
  • Smart Health support from AIG
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and parental benefits (subject to eligibility)
  • Enhanced sick pay and parental bereavement pay (subject to eligibility)
  • A supportive, inclusive working culture with a genuine social mission
  • The opportunity to make a visible difference every single day
