To provide tenancy sustainment assistance to individuals and families at risk of eviction or homelessness, promoting independence and ensuring long-term housing stability through tailored, strengths-based coaching and access to appropriate services. This role is primarily based around Birmingham & surrounding areas, but you’ll also need to travel to properties outside these areas.
Job Responsibility:
Manage a caseload of tenants (circa 60 – based upon need) to maximise their tenancy sustainment opportunities
Deliver person-centred coaching plans and coaching sessions via (at least) monthly property visits
Assist tenants with understanding their rights, tenancy obligations, and financial responsibilities
Liaise with landlords, housing providers, DWP, and other agencies to resolve tenancy-related issues
Advocate on behalf of clients in rent arrears, antisocial behaviour, or benefit disputes
Enable access to employment, training, and mental health or substance misuse services
Maintain accurate and timely records of assistance and coaching provided, outcomes, and risk assessments
Participate in case conferences, safeguarding referrals, and multi-agency panels
Contribute to service monitoring, evaluations, and continuous improvement effort
Ensure that tenants maintain their commitment responsibilities through their personal UC journal
Requirements:
Experience supporting individuals with complex needs in a housing, welfare, or social support setting
Knowledge of the UK welfare system, particularly Universal Credit and housing-related benefits
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
Competence with IT systems, record-keeping, and case management tools
Understanding of safeguarding policies and confidentiality standards
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Enhanced DBS check
Flexibility to work occasional evenings/weekends as required
Nice to have:
NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Housing, or equivalent
Training in motivational interviewing, coaching, or trauma-informed practice
Experience working with statutory services (DWP, local authority housing, Probation, etc)
Knowledge of tenancy law and housing legislation in the UK
