Job Description

We are recruiting on behalf of a client for an experienced Payroll Business Partner to join their team on a temporary basis. This is a senior, hands‑on payroll role, ideal for someone who enjoys combining payroll leadership, technical expertise, and stakeholder support and who can make an immediate impact.

Job Responsibility

  • Line managing and supporting payroll staff, ensuring high standards and consistent delivery
  • Overseeing end‑to‑end payroll processing, including starters, leavers, changes, and statutory payments
  • Reviewing payroll calculations and resolving complex or anomalous issues
  • Producing and overseeing payroll reports, reconciliations, and BACS submissions
  • Providing expert advice on payroll legislation, PAYE, NI, pensions, and auto‑enrolment
  • Liaising with external bodies and statutory agencies as required
  • Managing and supporting payroll system updates, testing, and improvements
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines, year‑end processes, and reporting requirements
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of payroll policies, procedures, and training

Requirements

  • Significant experience in a senior payroll or payroll leadership role
  • Strong technical payroll knowledge with a proven ability to manage complex payroll environments
  • Experience of line managing or supporting payroll staff
  • Confident advising stakeholders on payroll legislation and best practice
  • Organised, detail‑focused, and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines

Nice to have

Experience using iTrent or STAR payroll systems is highly desirable
