We are recruiting on behalf of a client for an experienced Payroll Business Partner to join their team on a temporary basis. This is a senior, hands‑on payroll role, ideal for someone who enjoys combining payroll leadership, technical expertise, and stakeholder support and who can make an immediate impact.
Job Responsibility:
Line managing and supporting payroll staff, ensuring high standards and consistent delivery
Overseeing end‑to‑end payroll processing, including starters, leavers, changes, and statutory payments
Reviewing payroll calculations and resolving complex or anomalous issues
Producing and overseeing payroll reports, reconciliations, and BACS submissions
Providing expert advice on payroll legislation, PAYE, NI, pensions, and auto‑enrolment
Liaising with external bodies and statutory agencies as required
Managing and supporting payroll system updates, testing, and improvements
Ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines, year‑end processes, and reporting requirements
Supporting the development and maintenance of payroll policies, procedures, and training
Requirements:
Significant experience in a senior payroll or payroll leadership role
Strong technical payroll knowledge with a proven ability to manage complex payroll environments
Experience of line managing or supporting payroll staff
Confident advising stakeholders on payroll legislation and best practice
Organised, detail‑focused, and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines
Nice to have:
Experience using iTrent or STAR payroll systems is highly desirable
