**This is a Temporary, Part-time opportunity with the Parks & Recreation Department within the Parks Division. The length of this temporary assignment will vary an the hours will not exceed 19 hours per week. Our Parks & Recreation department is looking for a Parks Worker I who will perform clean-up of public parks, splash pads, playground equipment, sports fields, and courts; minor landscape maintenance; repairs on equipment, sprinklers, and turf maintenance. The ideal candidate will be a self-starting, motivated individual with great communication skills that thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will also have previous custodial and landscape experience in addition to the availability to work a varied schedule that includes evenings, weekends and holidays. The ideal candidate will become part of a collaborative team that places a high value on safety and maximizes LEAN process efficiencies.
Job Responsibility:
perform clean-up of public parks, splash pads, playground equipment, sports fields, and courts
minor landscape maintenance
repairs on equipment, sprinklers, and turf maintenance
cleaning ramadas, playgrounds, patios and sidewalks
cleaning offices, recreation rooms, restrooms and locker rooms
power washing graffiti on block walls and other areas including rights-of-way and retention areas
digging trenches and holes, planting, irrigating, cultivating, fertilizing, weeding, trimming and pruning
picking up leaves and litter, installing sod and performing irrigation renovation
installing and removing trash receptacles, picnic tables, benches and signs
mowing, line trimming, picking up debris, aerating, scalping and seeding turf, planting, trimming and removal of plant material
spraying pesticides in parks and ROW
removing downed trees in parks and ROW
Requirements:
Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge is equivalent to less than high school or equivalency
Experience: No experience required
Certifications and Other Requirements: Valid Driver's License
Reading: Work requires the ability to read irrigation manuals, training guides, standard operating procedures and MSDS manuals
Math: Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Writing: This position requires the ability to complete work orders and general correspondence
Managerial: Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill or tenure
Policy/Decision Making: Moderate - The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review
Technical Skills: Limited Application - Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized
