An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a progressive and patient-focused acute service in Ireland. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality gastroenterology care across inpatient, outpatient, and endoscopy services, working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team. This role offers broad clinical exposure, along with opportunities to contribute to service development, teaching, and innovation in a modern healthcare environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services across outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and endoscopy units
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures
  • Manage a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including acute and chronic disorders
  • Participate in the consultant on-call rota as required
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical, surgical, and allied health professionals
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of gastroenterology services
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, patient safety, and care delivery

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
  • Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) (Specialist Division)
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in Gastroenterology (or equivalent)
  • MCRN (Medical Council Registration Number) with Specialist Registration
  • Extensive experience at Consultant level in Gastroenterology
  • Experience in General Internal Medicine
  • Strong experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical environments
  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in gastroenterology
  • High level of competence in endoscopic procedures
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage complex clinical cases and prioritise workload
