An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a progressive and patient-focused acute service in Ireland. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality gastroenterology care across inpatient, outpatient, and endoscopy services, working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team. This role offers broad clinical exposure, along with opportunities to contribute to service development, teaching, and innovation in a modern healthcare environment.
Job Responsibility:
Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services across outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and endoscopy units
Perform and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures
Manage a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including acute and chronic disorders
Participate in the consultant on-call rota as required
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical, surgical, and allied health professionals
Contribute to the development and expansion of gastroenterology services
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Support teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students
Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, patient safety, and care delivery
Requirements:
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) (Specialist Division)
Relevant postgraduate qualification in Gastroenterology (or equivalent)
MCRN (Medical Council Registration Number) with Specialist Registration
Extensive experience at Consultant level in Gastroenterology
Experience in General Internal Medicine
Strong experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical environments
Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in gastroenterology
High level of competence in endoscopic procedures
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Ability to manage complex clinical cases and prioritise workload
