Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Temporary Accommodation Housing Officer to join a busy Housing team in East London. This is an excellent opportunity to deliver a resident-focused housing management service across a portfolio of temporary accommodation. You'll work closely with residents, managing agents, contractors, and partner agencies to ensure accommodation is safe, well managed, and that vulnerable households receive the support they need.

Job Responsibility

  • Deliver a high-quality housing management service across temporary accommodation
  • Act as the first point of contact for residents, resolving enquiries and providing advice and support
  • Carry out regular property inspections to assess condition, health and safety, and compliance standards
  • Identify and investigate tenancy or licence fraud, making referrals where appropriate
  • Manage tenancy and licence issues, including anti-social behaviour, abandonment, breaches, and enforcement action
  • Support residents with tenancy sustainment, signposting to specialist support services where required
  • Work closely with repairs teams, contractors, managing agents, and internal departments to resolve property issues
  • Prepare casework for legal proceedings and attend court where necessary
  • Maintain accurate case records using housing management systems
  • Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with statutory procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience working within housing management, temporary accommodation, or homelessness services
  • Good knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 and temporary accommodation duties
  • Experience carrying out property inspections and managing housing-related casework
  • Knowledge of anti-social behaviour, tenancy management, safeguarding, and housing enforcement
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload
  • Experience working with vulnerable residents and partner agencies
  • Good IT skills and experience using housing management systems.

  • Take a proactive and leading role in tenancy management issues including anti-social behaviour, property condition, safeguarding, domestic abuse and tenancy fraud/misuse cases
  • Enforce the terms of license agreements, including providing clients with accurate and appropriate advice about their rights and responsibilities in relation to their license agreement and where necessary providing professional and excellent quality information to the Council's Legal Team to enable legal action to be taken where necessary
  • Liaise and work with support providers on such issues as unauthorized occupancy /abandonment/squatting, harassment, domestic violence, neighbour nuisance and anti-social behaviour adopting a joint approach that seeks to retain accommodation where possible
  • Support tenants who have suffered domestic abuse, working proactively with other agencies to advise and protect victims
  • Support the wider Housing Options service, where required, in communicating with clients while in the accommodation
  • Work closely and supportively with other team members and liaise effectively with other departments to ensure a coordinated and responsive service is provided
