Job Description

The Hadassah-Brandeis Institute is a research institute at Brandeis University which supports research at the intersection of Jewish Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies. The HBI Gilda Slifka Summer Internship is an eight-week residential summer internship for 8 undergraduate and graduate students. Participants provide research assistance to HBI affiliate faculty and scholars, carry out their own independent research projects and attend weekly seminars with leading experts in the field. Now in its 26th year, the HBI's Gilda Slifka Internship Program has become a launch pad for students interested in pursuing academic and/or professional careers focused on Jews and gender.

Job Responsibility

  • Developing and teaching the weekly seminar on significant themes and methodologies in Jewish gender studies
  • Planning and leading experiential learning field trips around Boston
  • Planning and organizing occasional visiting speakers
  • Providing individual mentorship to interns on their research projects
  • Participating in reviewing applications to the program
  • Revising the curriculum and scheduling experiential learning events
  • Attending weekly HBI staff meetings

Requirements

  • Strong background in Jewish gender studies and teaching experience preferred
  • Doctoral student or recent Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply
