The Telecoms Fibre Assistant Project Manager (APM) is a key role within the Project Management Department, supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of fibre optic network projects. The postholder will work closely with Project Managers and cross‑functional teams to ensure projects are completed efficiently, on time, within scope, and within budget. This role requires strong organisational capability, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of fibre network build processes. The APM will help drive operational excellence, monitor progress, support field teams, and assist with ensuring compliance with industry and client standards.
Job Responsibility:
Assist in the coordination of all aspects of fibre optic network projects from initiation to completion, including scheduling, resource planning, and task allocation
Act as a liaison between project managers, subcontractors, clients, and internal teams to ensure consistent communication and alignment of project objectives
Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date project documentation including project plans, progress reports, and change controls
Support quality assurance activities, ensuring that work carried out meets required standards and client expectations
Ensure all workforce accreditation requirements for Openreach, local councils, and MJ Quinn are met and maintained, in line with MJQ Training School guidance
Assist in the identification of project risks and challenges, supporting the development of mitigation strategies to reduce impact on delivery
Support budget monitoring activities, tracking costs and contributing to identifying potential savings or efficiencies
Conduct site visits as required to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards
Provide support to operational teams, including training coordination, task prioritisation, and performance monitoring
Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, systems, and ways of working
Requirements:
Strong telecommunications background, ideally with field‑based experience
Knowledge of fibre optic network infrastructure and relevant industry standards (desirable)
Previous experience in project coordination or assistant project management, ideally within telecoms
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritise, and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with stakeholders at all levels
Proficiency in project management tools and the Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrates a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage expectations
Adaptable and flexible in approach to evolving business needs
