Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director - Workplace Services and Automation. Technology Director - Workplace Services and Automation will shape the future of workplace technology at Wells Fargo. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, hardware platforms, and digital collaboration, with direct impact on how the entire bank’s employees connect, collaborate, and succeed in a hybrid world. As a leader within the Workplace Technology organization, you will define and drive the architecture for a diverse portfolio of employee-facing technologies—ranging from conference room systems and enterprise print to custom-built software platforms like Internal Application Store, Digital Assistants etc…—while ensuring security, resilience, and scalability at global scale. Job Responsibility:
Manage a team of engineering managers and engineering leads
Focus on delivering commitments aligned to enterprise strategic priorities
Build support for strategies with business and technology leaders
Guide development of actionable roadmaps and plans
Identify opportunities and strategies for continuous improvement of software engineering practices
Provide oversight to software craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developed by the teams or third party providers
Identify financial management and strategic resourcing
Set risk management guidelines and partner with stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
Develop strategies for hiring engineering talent
Lead implementation of projects and encourage engineering innovation
Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers
Lead team to achieve objectives
Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies or industry forums
Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Technology Strategic Leadership
Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
Act as a leader to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
Own the engineering vision, roadmap, and execution for a Workplace Technology product portfolio spanning software, hardware, and applications (cloud and on prem)
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, translating business priorities into executable engineering strategies and investment plans
Lead long‑term, enterprise‑scale initiatives that address complex, cross‑domain challenges with lasting architectural and operational impact
Balance near‑term delivery commitments with long‑term platform modernization and technical sustainability
Requirements:
8+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
4+ years of management or leadership experience
8+ years of software engineering experience, including enterprise application or platform development
4+ years managing software engineering managers and senior engineers
Extensive experience in the End User Computing space (mandatory), including Physical and Virtual Desktops, Software Development, Corp and Personal Mobile Devices, Device management platforms, Collaboration Tools and other end user technologies
Technical & Architectural Leadership
Define and own end-to-end architectural blueprints, reference designs, and standards across software, hardware, and cloud platforms
Act as a torchbearer for AI-driven development, including experimentation with agentic AI tools
Translate near-term technical issues into long-term architectural improvements
Partner closely with Product Management to understand end-user needs, behaviours, and pain points, translating feedback into engineering requirements
Mentor and coach engineers across the organization, raising the bar for technical excellence
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the product operating model, including product‑centric team structures, outcome‑based roadmaps, and iterative Agile delivery, with an appreciation for how SRE principles support product reliability, scalability, and customer trust
Software Engineering & Development Practices
Oversee development of bespoke internal tools, automations, and integrations that enhance workplace productivity
Establish and enforce best practices for SDLC, code quality, API design, UI/UX design and system integration
Accelerate engineering velocity through improved tooling, processes, and architectural patterns
Collaboration & Workplace Experience
Lead the engineering roadmap for Conference Room Technologies, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR)
Continuously analyse the end-to-end employee journey, using data and telemetry to proactively identify friction points and improve reliability and user experience
Print Technologies
Provide architectural leadership for enterprise print platforms, modernizing legacy services to secure, cloud‑based, and identity‑driven print solutions
Own the strategy for managed and “follow‑me” printing, focusing on security, reliability, cost optimization, and improved employee experience
Partner with infrastructure, security, and vendors to reduce on‑prem footprint, simplify operations, and ensure global scalability and resilience
