Job Description:

The Large-Scale Integrated Photonics (LSIP) Lab at HPE Labs has an immediate opening for a qualified research scientist with expertise in architecture and system design emerging analog computing platforms such as ReRAM-based in-memory computing, (silicon) photonics or quantum/quantum-inspired computing. This role will work closely with LSIP Lab colleagues in Milpitas, California, as well as with partners in Santa Barbara, Germany and Canada.

Job Responsibility:

  • Chip design, development of (micro-)architectures and overall system design
  • Algorithm/hardware co-design and corresponding hardware optimization in emerging analog computing platforms
  • Identify key workloads for hardware, identify computationally burdensome subroutines
  • Map workloads to appropriate hardware accelerators
  • Perform cross-platform benchmarking on prototype hardware or emulators
  • Collaborate with international multi-disciplinary team

Requirements:

  • Master degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Groundbreaking research related to architectures in emerging neuromorphic computing, quantum computing or equivalent emerging hardware platforms
  • Algorithm/hardware co-design
  • Strong background with Python
  • Team player, self-motivated and independent worker
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Stellar publication record in top peer-reviewed journals
  • Expert in recent machine learning techniques, architecture and micro-architecture design
  • Proficiency in circuit design tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre
  • Familiarity with emerging NVMs (ReRAMs, FeFETs etc.) and memory devices
  • Experience with lab testing, experimental measurements and post-silicon validation
  • Experience with chip tape-outs
  • Expert in Python coding with pytorch and tensorflow expertise
  • Experience with programming GPUs and FPGAs
  • Experience with cycle-accurate hardware simulators such as SST
