As Mechanical Technician in the days team at Skelmersdale, you’ll lead defined maintenance activities with a focus on mechanical systems. You’ll be accountable for the performance and reliability of machinery through preventative and predictive maintenance strategies. This hands-on role is central to our ambition of zero breakdowns and zero stops, and will contribute to both short-term performance and long-term asset development.
Job Responsibility:
Maintenance Leadership: Manage and plan mechanical work on site, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and legal standards
Technical Support: Coach and support operational colleagues in resolving mechanical issues and improving machine reliability
Performance Management: Own mechanical maintenance KPIs and drive continuous improvement to meet departmental objectives
System Oversight: Manage mechanical work through SAP (CMMS), ensuring accurate planning, execution, and documentation
Contractor Management: Oversee mechanical contractors and uphold high standards of work, including quality audits and commissioning
Team Development: Lead and mentor junior technicians, fostering skill development and capability growth
Workshop Excellence: Maintain workshop standards and ensure permit control and health & safety adherence
Requirements:
Completed a recognised multi-skilled or mechanical engineering apprenticeship, ideally with City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3
Proven mechanical experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or process environments
Strong troubleshooting skills and experience maintaining complex automated manufacturing systems, including large rotating equipment and hydraulics
Skilled in planning, mentoring, and problem-solving, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines
Experience using SAP for maintenance planning and execution
