Job Description:

As a Technician – Geothermal Operations, you will play a vital role in supporting Lihir’s geothermal monitoring and safety systems. Your work ensures accurate data collection, reliable operation of geothermal systems or similar geotechnical operational systems, and strong hazard awareness across the open pit. By applying your technical skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safety, you’ll help maintain safe mining conditions, support geothermal project delivery, and contribute to the ongoing development of geothermal monitoring across operational teams.

Job Responsibility:

  • Ensure full compliance with all HSE requirements, policies, and Fitness for Work standards
  • Complete HSE tasks only when hazards, risks, and controls are clearly understood and agreed with your Supervisor
  • Work constructively within a diverse team and take accountability for your own development and performance
  • Lead the installation and data collection of geothermal monitoring systems in the open pit
  • Contribute to the execution of mine geothermal projects and support geothermal hazard training for operational and technical teams
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections on geothermal equipment, including steam relief wells
  • Identify cost‑saving opportunities and report any cost wastage within your area of responsibility

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 education
  • PNG Class 6 Driver’s Licence
  • More than 1 year of experience in a mining or technical role
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a multicultural team
  • Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills
  • High attention to detail, good time management, and the ability to work independently when required

Nice to have:

  • Diploma in IT Networking, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a similar technical field
  • Experience with data and software networking, system communications, and technical reporting
  • Familiarity with geothermal or geotechnical monitoring systems
