The Technician, Aircraft Performance supports the safe and efficient operation of the Air Canada fleet by performing aircraft performance analysis and maintaining airport, obstacle, and performance data. The Technician performs these duties under the direction and supervision of the Principal Engineer, Aircraft Performance, in accordance with established standards, procedures, and methodologies. The role contributes to regulatory compliance, operational optimization of aircraft take-off, landing and route performance across the Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and NRFO fleet.
Job Responsibility:
Design and validate engine-inoperative obstacle clearance departure and missed approach procedures with the goal of maximizing both operational integrity and performance capabilities
Conduct airport analysis by collecting, validating, and maintaining the most up-to date airport, runway, terrain, and obstacle data
Support airport authorization processes
Use computer-assisted design (CAD) and geographical information system (GIS) tools to model and analyze terrain and obstacle environments
Liaise with airport authorities and external data providers on assigned items, escalating broader operational impacts as required to improve aircraft operational safety and efficiency
Monitor Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), aeronautical information publication (AIP) revisions and procedure changes impacting flight operations
Assess NOTAMs, temporary obstacles, runway construction, and NAVAID outages for operational impact
Maintain airport data within aircraft performance applications and related operational systems
Review and assess Jeppesen revisions during each AIRAC cycle and process changes impacting flight operations (e.g., SIDs, approaches, NAVAIDs)
Ensure performance procedures and airport data are accurately published for use by Flight Crew and Flight Dispatch
Maintain audit-ready documentation and version control of performance analyses
Prepare route performance analyses in support of Network Planning, Scheduling, Dispatch, Aircraft Programs and other internal stakeholders
Requirements:
Technical degree in aviation, geomatics/GIS or equivalent
3+ years of experience in aircraft performance, airline operations, flight procedure design or related aviation field experience preferred
Experience working with aircraft performance software and airport/obstacle data systems is an asset
Strong understanding of aircraft performance principles and regulatory requirements
Proficiency in analytical tools (e.g. advanced Excel, performance software)
Experience with CAD and/or GIS tools preferred
Working knowledge of AIRAC cycle processes and Jeppesen data products is an asset
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and data accuracy
Ability to exercise sound technical judgement in safety-critical environments
Effective written and verbal communications skills
Ability to collaborate across technical and operational departments
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities within defined timelines
Must be willing to provide occasional off-hour support
Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment
