The Technical Writer is responsible for creating, reviewing, and maintaining a wide range of technical documentation that supports software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and end‑user activities. This role develops clear and comprehensive documentation for hardware and software components, including installation guides, configuration instructions, how‑to materials, implementation guides, and end‑user manuals. The position also involves producing code documentation, data definitions, data flow descriptions, and technical publications derived from engineering drawings, technical discussions, and other source materials. The Technical Writer ensures documentation accuracy, consistency, usability, and alignment with program requirements across all phases of the documentation lifecycle.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare, revise, and maintain technical documentation, including user guides, manuals, and operations documents
Gather, analyze, and organize technical information for written documentation
Maintain an up‑to‑date internal documentation library
Use tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and similar applications to produce high-quality documents
Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to create clear and accurate documentation and training materials
Support all phases of documentation-from initial drafting to final approval
Write technical copy using proper grammar and documentation standards for projects of comparable complexity
Develop reports, briefs, and responses for diverse audiences
Coordinate document layout, formatting, and design
Research complex technical subject matter and consolidate information from multiple sources into accessible written content
Translate engineering drawings, technical information, and SME insights into structured, user‑friendly documentation
Produce defense acquisition documents, user and training manuals, and other materials used by DoD system end users
Interpret maintenance drawings and operational procedures to integrate complex system information
Generate technical documentation for cryptologic programs or analytic tradecraft development
Create, update, and manage content in SharePoint, Confluence, or similar collaboration platforms
Provide expert guidance and oversight on technical writing and editing across program documentation efforts
Independently prepare and maintain documentation for highly complex systems, programming processes, procedures, and operational methods
Serve as a project lead for documentation initiatives involving complex or extensive material, including coordinating specialized documentation services as needed
Requirements:
Minimum of eight (8) years of Technical Writer experience supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity
Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline from an accredited institution
U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants
This position requires an active Security Clearance with appropriate Polygraph
Nice to have:
Master's degree in a technical or business field may substitute for two (2) years of experience
