Job Description

Make your mark as Technical Superintendent Nigeria at Smit Lamnalco. You will manage and execute running ‘day-to-day’ Maintenance and Repair (M&R) activities of vessels assigned to you within time-frame and budget as set, in order to maintain technical reliability and maximize utilization of the fleet.

Job Responsibility

  • Coordinate and execute ‘day-to-day’ running maintenance activities (mainly preventive) onboard the vessels to maintain technical reliability of vessels and prevent downtime/off-hire
  • Supervise, coach and instruct chief engineers onboard the vessels to ensure technical management onboard is in line with company expectation
  • Execute repairs, supervise crew and subcontractors in line with the agreed planning, budget and quality standards
  • Take responsibility for the correct allocation of costs related to the vessel’s repair and maintenance, dockings, damages and modifications
  • Guides crew on board the vessels to ensure Company standard are met and work is done as per guidelines and specifications
  • Actively promotes Safety Health Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) awareness and monitors performance to ensure safety standards and safe working practices /leads ‘by example’
  • Interface with Regulatory Authorities & Stakeholders i.e. Classification Society & Flag State on technical integrity of vessels whilst maintaining cordial relationship with stakeholders

Requirements

  • Experience as technical superintendent or technical manager in a similar environment/company
  • At least higher/secondary vocational education in mechanical engineering, naval architect or equivalent
  • Experience as former chief engineer on offshore support Vessels is preferred
  • At least 7 years verifiable experience gained as technical superintendent/port engineer or technical manager
  • Fluent command of the English language, spoken and written

  • Monitor machinery performance and repeat failures
  • drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA), defect elimination and reliability improvements to protect availability and reduce unplanned downtime/off-hire exposure
  • Provide clear technical direction to Masters and Chief Engineers on maintenance standards, breakdown response and escalation thresholds
  • Act as subject matter expert for mission-critical systems (DP/station-keeping, diesel-electric/power management, walk-to-work/gangway systems, hotel/POB critical systems, and transfer craft where fitted)
  • Ensure operational readiness through disciplined maintenance, vendor governance and performance trending to protect safety and charter compliance
  • Lead technical readiness for mobilisations/conversions/upgrades, including acceptance planning, punch-list control and commissioning evidence where applicable
