The Traveling Engineer is responsible for the inspection, repair, and preventative maintenance of airport facilities, building systems, operational equipment and construction project work. Based at LAX, this role supports multiple airport locations and ensures that all sites assets are safe, functional, compliant, and well-documented. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, highly organized, and comfortable working in active airport environments. This role requires strong leadership, coordination, and relationship management skills to ensure exceptional service delivery while maintaining high client satisfaction standards.
Job Responsibility:
Perform routine and emergency inspections of buildings, infrastructure, and operational equipment
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building-related issues
Basic carpentry and finish work repairs
Maintain systems including doors, electrical, HVAC components, lighting, and support equipment
Coordinate PM and repair work with building manager to minimize downtime and disruption
Execute scheduled preventative maintenance programs across multiple airport locations
Identify potential failures and recommend corrective actions before issues escalate
Ensure maintenance activities meet safety, regulatory, and equipment manufacturer standards
Document inspections, installations, repairs, preventative maintenance, and service events accurately and timely
Use CMMS or other asset management systems to log work orders and reports
Provide clear communication and reporting to management and airport stakeholders
Travel regularly to assigned airports to support maintenance and project needs
Respond to urgent maintenance issues as required
Represent the company professionally while working on-site at customer facilities
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, or equipment repair
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
Experience performing preventative maintenance and inspections
Ability to read manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation
Comfortable working in secure, regulated airport environments
Willingness to travel frequently and work flexible schedules, including nights or weekends
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Able to pass background checks and get airport credentials
Nice to have:
Airport, aviation, or transportation facility experience
Experience with CMMS or asset management systems
OSHA safety training or equivalent
Electrical, HVAC, or mechanical certifications
Ability to obtain airport security badges and clearances
