Job Description:

The research group Pan at the Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen is looking for a Technical Research Assistant (f/m/d) 75-100%. Our international research group at the Max Planck Institute for Biology in Tübingen investigates how sex determination evolves across insects. We study the molecular and developmental mechanisms of sex determination across multiple species, with a focus on how new sex determination systems emerge and evolve. To address these questions, we combine high-throughput genomics and transcriptomics analyses with functional and developmental approaches.

Job Responsibility:

Coordinate lab organization, maintenance and safety, including inventory management and purchasing
Optimize and perform routine DNA/RNA lab work (extraction, library preparation, qPCR)
Support insect genetic engineering experiments (CRISPR/RNAi microinjection in embryo, cell line maintenance)
Contribute to microscopy-based workflows (FISH and ISH staining, imaging)
Provide training and day-to-day support to members of the research group

Requirements:

University degree (or equivalent experience) in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field
Solid hands-on experience with routine molecular biology techniques
Experience, or willingness to learn cell biology, genetic engineering approaches
Strong organizational skills and a reliable, independent working style
Curiosity, willingness to learn, and interest in optimizing protocols
Good communication skills
English is the working language of the lab, and German is an advantage
Leadership mindset, collaborative attitude, and commitment to maintaining a supportive, well-functioning lab environment
