At BorgWarner, the role of Technical Project Manager—known internally as the System Project Leader (SYPL) is responsible for the end-to-end technical leadership of a project or product family, ensuring successful integration, planning, execution, and delivery across all engineering disciplines. This role drives the development of cutting-edge eMobility solutions—including power electronics, electric motors, and driveline systems—from concept through production.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and manage a global engineering team to successfully execute projects or product families
Drive system-level reviews, including requirements, architecture, and integration
Act as the primary technical interface to the customer, managing product definition, requirements allocation, and development expectations
Understand customer needs and align them with feasible, marketable product solutions
Lead technical negotiations for customer change requests, assessing cost and timing impacts
Balance trade-offs across power electronics, eMotor, and mechanical systems to optimize overall performance
Develop and maintain detailed engineering timing plans, tracking progress across design, testing, and validation
Ensure timely delivery of all engineering outputs to Program Management
Collaborate with Program Management to ensure cross-functional task integration
Proactively manage project risks throughout the development lifecycle
Define and manage engineering resource requirements against approved budgets
Communicate technical project status clearly to internal and external engineering stakeholders
Support product reliability and warranty monitoring
contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions when needed
Promote and enforce adherence to engineering processes, including ASPICE, functional safety, and cybersecurity standards
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master´s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on electric drive systems, power electronics, or electric motors
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the automotive industry
At least 3 years of experience in project or technical project management within the automotive sector
Proven expertise (3+ years) in power electronics, eMotors, driveline systems, and both hardware and software development
Broad engineering background with hands-on experience in complex mechatronic systems, including electrical machines, power electronics, and embedded software
Deep understanding of electrified vehicle systems and their integration
Familiarity with hybrid and electric vehicle operating modes, system-level trade-offs, and packaging constraints
Strong analytical and technical skills, including statistical analysis and structured problem-solving (e.g., root cause analysis, 8D methodology)
Practical experience with ASPICE, functional safety, and cybersecurity standards, ensuring compliance with industry regulations
Knowledge of automotive safety analysis tools and standards, including ISO 26262, DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA, and FTA
Effective team leadership and coaching abilities
Experience working in global, cross-cultural teams across multiple regions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Willingness to travel occasionally (less than 20%) and adapt to flexible work schedules when needed
Nice to have:
Proficiency in German and French is a plus
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across functions and geographies
