A leading Melbourne-based university is seeking a highly capable and self-directed Technical Officer to join the Materials, Process, Civil & Infrastructure (MPCI) Technical Services team. In this pivotal role, you will support the Pavement Laboratories, driving the success of undergraduate teaching and HDR research. Job Responsibility:
Teaching & Research Support: Assisting with laboratory activities involving Hot, Warm, and Cold Asphalt and Bitumen for both students and researchers
Asset Management: Overseeing equipment maintenance, servicing, and calibration schedules while maintaining accurate asset registers
Laboratory Governance: Managing consumables, stock control, and ordering to ensure seamless daily operations
Compliance & Safety: Preparing and reviewing critical documentation (SOPs, ERAs, and SWIs) and ensuring the safe handling of materials according to regulatory standards
Continuous Improvement: Proactively identifying opportunities to enhance laboratory systems and operational efficiency
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
Proven experience in laboratory operations and equipment maintenance
A solid understanding of laboratory safety and compliance frameworks
Proficiency in preparing technical documentation and risk assessments
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders (academics, students, and external vendors)
Nice to have:
Prior experience working within a university or research laboratory environment
