The Technical Manager role provides technical representation for the Decorative Coatings market segment in the Americas, acting as a primary interface with the market and to customers. In this role, you’ll provide effective technical collaboration with customers in Decorative Coatings by providing optimal support through visits or via virtual tools, and identifying joint areas and topics for further development while monitoring short-, medium-, and long-term market trends, customer needs and portfolio gaps in Decorative Coatings and translating these insights into ideas for new product development. You’ll support or lead innovation projects and ensure successful product launches in the market.
Job Responsibility:
Provide technical representation for the Decorative Coatings market segment in the Americas
Act as primary technical interface with the market and customers
Provide effective technical collaboration with customers via visits or virtual tools
Identify joint areas and topics for further development
Monitor short-, medium-, and long-term market trends, customer needs and portfolio gaps
Translate insights into ideas for new product development
Support or lead innovation projects
Ensure successful product launches
Build and sustain world class technical support
Serve as primary technical contact to designated customers in North America
Collaborate closely with market and customers through on-site visits, conferences, events, seminars, and virtual engagements
Represent Business Line CAD and Market Segment Decorative Coatings as a technical expert
Identify opportunities for Technical Service projects (TSRs)
Collaborate with regional ART Head, lab teams, Quality Control, and Complaint Management to resolve customer complaints
Implement projects and IP strategies
Continuously advance the MS DECO product and technology portfolio and internal expertise
Implement innovative ideas for product and process development through new product development projects
Identify appropriate work to support new product development projects
Supervise scientists and/or technicians
File patent applications as appropriate
Follow up with customers to understand performance of experimental products
Document and validate experimental results
Prepare publications and promotional material
Actively participate on the Americas Decorative Coatings Market Segment Team
Ensure alignment with global and regional strategies
Execute market-oriented applications development and innovation activities
Monitor market trends, competitive activities, and technology developments
Recommend benchmarking initiatives
Translate customer and market needs into innovative ideas
Participate in and lead internal expert committees
Proactively transfer knowledge on additive and formulation technology
Comply with all North American regional and Allentown site EHSQ measures and requirements
Support Senior Scientists and Scientists in creating Safe Work Practices (SWPs) and Design Hazard Reviews (DHRs)
Ensure all hazards and regulatory compliances are assessed and communicated
Actively serve on one Allentown site Safety@Evonik subcommittee
Develop and deliver safety meeting material
Requirements:
M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related Science
Deep knowledge of either coatings applications or additives for coatings (having both is preferred)
Strong understanding of chemical structure-property relationships for surfactants, dispersants, and other additives
Experience providing technical support and training to customers and distributors
