Job Responsibility:
Lead the fit process on live models and fit forms, collaborating closely with Designers and Developers to ensure successful sample execution from initial prototypes through final production
Partner with Design and Development teams, providing expert recommendations and communicating effectively with manufacturing partners on fit, specifications, shape, pattern, and construction methods to enhance product quality and consumer satisfaction
Develop, review, and approve garment technical specifications, utilizing existing blocks or market samples to complete comprehensive Design Tech Packs for high-quality garment creation
Translate aesthetic design intent into precise technical fit requirements, offering corrective suggestions as needed
Ensure all designs for children’s apparel strictly adhere to applicable safety regulations and standards
Champion fit consistency across all products by effectively utilizing Fit Blocks and a comprehensive Fit Guide
Conduct benchmark analysis and market research on existing and new silhouettes to inform design and development decisions
Adhere to product development calendars and established standard operating procedures to ensure timely completion of fit comments to manufacturing partners
Requirements:
Minimum 6-8+ years of experience in Technical Design, working across various apparel categories (e.g., tops, bottoms, outerwear, denim, knits, wovens)
5+ years of experience specifically in children’s apparel is required
A keen eye for well-fitting garments on live models and fit forms, with a deep understanding of garment proportion, functionality, fabric drape, diverse body profiles, and pattern shapes
Hands-on experience in pattern development (flat and draping), garment sizing, and pattern grading
strong patternmaking knowledge is essential
Comprehensive understanding of garment construction standards, manufacturing methods, materials (fabric and trims), and finishing techniques
Working knowledge of apparel manufacturing, design, product development, and merchandising processes from design inception through production
Proactive, self-motivated, problem-solving, and results-oriented with a strong sense of urgency, capable of adhering to product development processes
Proficiency with apparel specification systems and familiarity with Pattern Design Systems
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)
Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and articulation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both business and technical contexts
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, thriving in a fast-paced, diverse, and multicultural environment
Willingness and ability to work additional hours when needed
Capable of standing and measuring proto samples and fit models
