Bentley’s technical documentation is essential to the success of our complex software and is consumed by hundreds of thousands of users each month. We are seeking a Technical Communication Director to lead a company-wide effort to elevate the documentation experience, unify standards, and enable our distributed community of technical writers across dozens of product teams. This role will own the UX and Digital Experience (DX) strategy for documentation and will lead Bentley’s Documentation Community of Practice (CoP), shaping how documentation is structured, authored, governed, and prepared for both human and AI-driven consumption.
Job Responsibility:
Own the documentation UX/DX vision — including information architecture, structure, metadata, navigation, and discoverability
Lead Bentley’s Documentation Community of Practice (CoP) to drive adoption of consistent standards, tools, and best practices across all product teams
Define and maintain documentation standards, including style guidelines, terminology, and content organization patterns
Partner with distributed product teams and their technical writers, influencing without taking over content creation, and ensuring alignment across platforms
Drive documentation analytics, establishing KPIs and measurement frameworks to ensure quality, consistency, and user satisfaction
Guide Bentley’s dual AI strategy for documentation — improving both AI-assisted content workflows and the readiness of content for AI-based search and Q&A experiences
Collaborate closely with UX, Product, Engineering, Support, and Digital Experience leadership to ensure that documentation is treated as a first-class product capability
Requirements:
Experience leading technical communication, documentation, UX, or content strategy across multiple products or teams
Demonstrated ability to influence distributed writers and drive convergence across diverse platforms and toolchains
Expertise in information architecture, structured content, metadata, and documentation standards
Strong stakeholder management and change‑leadership skills
able to lead through influence
Familiarity with AI-assisted documentation workflows and content models designed for AI readability
Experience building or running a content-focused Community of Practice is highly valued
Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer
