Direct Line Group is evolving, and our Commercial Claims function is at the heart of that transformation. As a Technical Claims Consultant within our Commercial Liability Direct team, you will manage complex and high‑value liability claims while acting as a trusted technical expert across the business. You will play a key role within our Large & Complex Loss Specialist Claims function, helping to deliver fair outcomes, technical excellence and continuous improvement in claims handling.

Job Responsibility:

  • Managing a portfolio of complex and high‑value Employers’, Public, Disease and Product Liability claims within delegated authority
  • Leading detailed investigations, instructing external experts, and confirming indemnity positions through robust policy analysis
  • Working closely with solicitors and counsel on liability assessment, litigation strategy and policy interpretation
  • Negotiating fair, timely and commercially appropriate settlements while balancing legal and customer outcomes
  • Acting as a technical specialist, coaching colleagues and contributing to continuous improvement in claims strategy and processes

Requirements:

  • Proven experience handling complex commercial liability claims, including EL, PL, Disease and Product Liability
  • Strong technical knowledge of common law, liability principles and insurance legislation
  • Experience managing higher‑value or complex losses with confident decision‑making within authority
  • Ability to coach, mentor or provide technical guidance to develop others’ capability
  • Excellent analytical, communication and negotiation skills, with confidence influencing senior stakeholders
