We are recruiting for Technical Authors for our client based in Letchworth. This is a permanent role. They can offer hybrid working patterns. Hours are: Monday - Friday 8.30 - 5.00 (finish at 1.30 on Fridays). Sonovision UK is a leading provider of Engineering Support Services to clients. Our experts help our clients in the Energy, Aerospace, Military and Commercial Sectors achieve time-to-market objectives and cost goals. The Technical Author will be responsible for developing and maintaining clear, accurate, and compliant technical documentation to support engineering products, systems, and processes. Working closely with design engineers, project managers, and subject matter experts (SMEs), the Technical Author ensures that manuals, instructions, and supporting documents meet both customer needs and industry standards.
Job Responsibility:
Research, plan, and produce high-quality S1000D / Simplified Technical English (STE) compliant Data Modules, including: Descriptive Procedural Operation Maintenance Illustrated Parts Data (IPD)
Work closely with engineering teams to obtain and validate technical information
Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, user-friendly instructions for operators, technicians, and customers
Ensure documentation complies with relevant industry regulations and standards
Manage document version control in line with product life cycles and engineering change processes
Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation practices, ensuring efficiency and standardisation
Requirements:
Previous experience as a Technical Author, ideally within defence, engineering, manufacturing, industrial equipment, or related industries
Experience in using S1000D and Simplified Technical English
Strong understanding of engineering principles, terminology, and technical drawings
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to interpret and simplify technical data for varied audiences
Proficiency in authoring tools (e.g. Arbortext Editor, Adobe FrameMaker, MS Word)
Knowledge of document management systems and version control practices
Must successfully undergo UK Security Vetting (Security Check (SC))
Nice to have:
Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related field
Experience working within an engineering project environment (e.g., defence, aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, energy or oil & gas)
