Technical Author – Technical Publications (Hydroelectric Power Generation) North Wales (Hybrid / Mostly Remote with occasional Site Visits) Salary: Up to £65,000 basic (DOE) 12-month contract (strong likelihood of extension to end of 2028) Outsource UK are recruiting for an experienced Technical Lead (Technical Publications) to join an exciting new technical documentation project supporting two recently refurbished hydroelectric power stations in North Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technical publications professional with a strong engineering background to lead the creation and revision of Maintenance Instructions (MIs), ensuring all deliverables align with customer specifications, quality standards and project KPIs. The role will be mostly home-based, with regular visits to customer site in North Wales. You will work closely with the Project Manager, technical authoring and illustration teams, as well as the customer's engineering and project teams.
Job Responsibility:
Act as the operational and day-to-day technical expert and key point of contact for the project team
Identify the need for new and revised Maintenance Instructions (MIs)
Scope, define and structure tasks ready for production by technical authoring teams
Author and review Maintenance Instructions in line with customer CMS requirements
Support the Project Manager in managing a team of technical authors and illustrators
Resolve technical queries and liaise with key customer stakeholders
Monitor deliverables to ensure quality standards and KPIs are achieved
Review project schedules and support delivery against key milestones
Develop and implement improved processes, training and production methods
Support development strategies to ensure continuity of capability across the project lifecycle
Requirements:
Proven experience creating and compiling Maintenance Instructions (MIs) in a related field (ideally power generation)
