Job Overview The overall objective is to ensure all Mercedes-Benz vehicles imported/distributed in the USA and Canada meet all necessary quality exterior appearance requirements of MB vehicles produced by all MBAG plants worldwide prior to distribution in the retail market. This role is focused on ensuring that any paint blemishes or body damage to MB vehicles that impact the exterior components of the MB Vehicles are returned to the original appearance. This position must have advanced skills to remove any foreign particles and other debris from surfaces to be painted, ability to identify and fill cavities and dents in components on vehicles to create an even surface, mask or tape off details and components to avoid contamination. This position must have advanced skills to prepare, paint and polish automotive components including the application of Matte finish and the extensive three stage paint in accordance with MBAG’s quality standards. The position is responsible for identifying and calculating the correct paint mixing formulas so that it will match the components on MB vehicles in its original condition. This position must also have the written and verbal skills to ensure all components painted and using MBAG and MBUSA systems are recorded properly to ensure a complete accurate record of open and completed work to the vehicle is maintained. This is necessary from both a quality and legal standpoint. This position is to provide technical support, guidance and training to Technical Associates and Body Technician Painter II daily in order for these positions to be effective in support of all paint requirements necessary for MB vehicles. This position must also perform or ensure all preventative maintenance on tools and equipment are completed so that VPC operations can be carried out efficiently. This position must have the necessary technical skills to give guidance and expert advice to management on all paint vehicle-related issues. Responsible for completing online and classroom based training for new tools, software (Microsoft Products), diagnostic systems and new vehicles yearly or as required. This position must have the qualifications to ensure all work completed is done in adherence to ISO90001 standards and MBAG quality standards
Job Responsibility
Prepare vehicles for painting
Mix paints, apply primer according to procedures and paint full panels, vehicle parts and accessories including all three-stage paint and matte applications
Basic Knowledge of Voisv in order to record work completion
Perform cleaning and preventative maintenance on tools/equipment and maintain a clean and safe work area
Advise Painter II as required
Perform Modifications as required
Requirements
High School Diploma (GED) or equivalent work experience
Advanced knowledge of Spray booth painting, sanding equipment, polishing and painting equipment including mixing paint from multiple paint suppliers
Advanced paint certifications / training and or experience required
Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive surface preparation and painting including three stage and matte applications
Familiarity with ISO9001 Standards
Must be able to work flexible hours / schedule
Work is conducted near moving, mechanical parts with exposure to exhaust and paint fumes, airborne particles as a result of shop work and, periodically, extreme heat
Intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing for extended periods of time, stooping, climbing, sitting, reaching overhead
Frequently requires the use of hands to lift or handle objects, tools or controls. Manual dexterity and the ability to operate mechanical equipment required
