The Paper Technical Assistant will be an assistant to the Paper Area Managers. This position will act as a resource for all facets of day-to-day operations in the Paper Machine, while designing systems to build long-term stability and reliability. The Paper Machine Technical Assistant will be heavily involved in a broad spectrum of areas such as Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and People. They must help manage the safety, environmental, people, operations, and reliability performance of the Paper Machines.
Job Responsibility:
All safety and environmental results for the Paper Machines
Building, communicating, and executing consistent operating practices across all shifts
Developing and maintaining Operator engagement through communication, empowerment, and training
Assist in directing and leading the Paper Machine Crew Leaders with clear expectations and accountability
Investigating, resolving, and implementing process improvements
Interfacing with other departments to ensure quality parameters are achieved and maintained
Serving as operational support for reliability efforts, including MWS, Basic Care, IEPM, and RCFA
Serving as operational support for capital needs, including the development of FEL1 level of the Project Development Process (PDP)
Providing support on project management and/or outage management
Managing area costs and meeting budget
Filling in as a Paper Machine Area Manager when needed
Build effective systems and materials such as operating procedures (SOP), troubleshooting documents (TCC), and other training materials
Complete technical process evaluations and improvements
Seek out and implement best practices using teams, databases, vendors, and other technical resources
Support improvements in a healthy and highly functioning basic care process
Participate in the 5S program for the area, including leading 5S improvement projects as needed
Participate in cost reduction program idea generation and implementation process
Provide support for capital project development and implementation
Requirements:
3-7 years of Pulp and Paper Industry experience with a demonstrated record of safety commitment and results
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related field is required
A demonstrated record of safety commitment and results
Instill safety as a core value within the team and effectively communicate a shared vision for safety
Quickly develop thorough knowledge of mill equipment and systems
Utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with groups and individuals at all levels
Utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change
Utilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively
