Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Advisor to join our team at Northpower. This role is key in supporting our Supervisors, Team Leaders, and field teams by providing expert guidance on work practices, system usage, and continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll play a vital part in coaching and mentoring across the business from field crews to managers ensuring alignment with Northpower’s Communities of Practice (COPs) and embedding best practices in safety leadership, critical risk management, and competency development.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide expert technical support by facilitating and participating in operational risk management practices
  • Collaborate to build, refine, and implement best operational practices
  • Offer advice on emerging issues, innovations, and improvement opportunities
  • Travel regularly and be onsite reviewing current work practices to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement
  • Lead and manage technical safety enhancements and support strategic projects
  • Foster innovation through idea generation, sharing, and implementation
  • Identify and apply more effective risk and safety controls
  • Proactively recommend improvements to safety procedures, work practices, and standards
  • Support field teams with complex cable jointing and termination work
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical advice to improve network reliability and performance
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of cable jointing procedures
  • Participate in audit and assurance activities
  • Conduct 2nd Line of Defence audits on systems and processes
  • Perform compliance and risk assurance functions
  • Verify and assess work type competencies across the business

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience within the distribution or energy sector
  • Strong technical knowledge of field operations, cable jointing, safety systems, and compliance frameworks
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and influence individuals at all levels
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Proactive approach to identifying risks and driving operational excellence
  • Relevant trade, technical, or engineering qualification (or equivalent experience)
