Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Manager of Technical Accounting to provide expert guidance on complex accounting standards and policy development. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with key regulations, overseeing high-risk estimates, and managing critical accounting areas. Based in Daytona Beach, Florida, this position also serves as a crucial liaison to external auditors and ensures the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.

Job Responsibility:

  • Interpret and apply complex accounting standards, including GASB and US GAAP, to ensure organizational compliance
  • Oversee enterprise-wide contract reviews and provide accounting sign-offs for significant agreements
  • Manage compliance with GASB 96 (Subscription-Based IT Arrangements) and GASB 87 (Leases), ensuring accurate reporting and disclosures
  • Lead pension accounting activities, including preparation and review of disclosures for financial statements
  • Govern quarterly reconciliations and roll-forwards for key areas such as medical malpractice, insurance lags, and workers’ compensation
  • Collaborate closely with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process and address audit-related inquiries
  • Design, document, and assess the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Supervise the preparation of journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close processes
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial statement audits and account reconciliations
  • Provide expertise in Workday ERP to optimize accounting workflows and reporting capabilities

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in technical accounting or related fields
  • In-depth knowledge of GASB, US GAAP, and their applications
  • Proven experience with month-end close processes, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
  • Strong background in preparing and auditing financial statements, including disclosures
  • Expertise in managing account reconciliations and ensuring compliance with key accounting standards
  • Familiarity with Workday ERP or similar systems for financial management
  • Demonstrated ability to design and evaluate internal controls over financial reporting
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on detail and accuracy
