High School diploma or equivalent required
B.S in Biology or Life Sciences preferred
Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments
Familiar with care and use of microtome, embedding stations and staining equipment
Willingness to perform detailed, repetitive tasks to established benchmarks
Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures
Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipment

Job Responsibility

Embed samples by orientating tissues in molds and adding Paraffin wax
Provide quality embedding, accurately embed a minimum of up to 60 blocks per hour, unloading Tissue Processor, scan barcoded cassette in Antrim for the appropriate worklist
Maintain embedding station as required per Standard Operating Procedure and accepted protocols
Meet minimum department production goals
Prioritize stat and manifest blocks
Reconcile all Antrim pending list for any work completed
Operate Roche Benchmark special stain instrument
Perform manual stains as required
Calibrate and run Quality Control on the machines and assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the machines
Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results
