We are currently looking for a skilled Teamlead Engineering (m/f/d) with a passion to assume leadership responsibilities to support us in building the fastest & most intuitive shopping app using a brand-new tech stack onsite in Hamburg or Berlin! The App & Web Team constantly improves the App, Mobile Website and Desktop Website. These big-scale products are each visited by over 11M active users every month. The team’s focus is to provide our customers the most inspiring, convenient, intuitive, and easy-to-use shopping experience. They constantly challenge themselves to raise the bar of what is “state of the art” in customer-facing products.

Job Responsibility:

  • Guide the team through complex technical challenges, breaking down large projects into manageable tasks and ensuring timely and quality delivery of new e-commerce features
  • Mentor and coach Frontend Developers, QA Engineers, helping them grow their technical skills, understand system architecture, and advance their careers
  • Act as the key technical partner to the Teamlead Product to align engineering effort with business goals, product vision, and user experience requirements to share a joint vision between product and tech
  • Act as the primary technical contact person for the team. Ensure clear and continuous alignment with Tech Leads from other teams regarding shared backend architecture, API schemas, and integration contracts
  • Define and communicate the technical roadmap and architecture for the ABOUT YOU website application, ensuring scalability, performance, and security, especially during peak e-commerce traffic
  • Ensure the team’s technical strategy and delivery methods are aligned with the overall vision set by the App & Web Tech Lead
  • Own the monitoring and optimization of the website’s Core Web Vitals and overall application performance, collaborating with operations to ensure high availability and fast load times
  • Take technical ownership of the website application, ensuring its short- and long-term maintainability, technology stack health, and adherence to company-wide standards
  • Actively participate in the hiring, interviewing, and onboarding of new engineering talent, helping to grow the team effectively
  • Research, evaluate, and propose new technologies and tools that can improve the customer experience or development efficiency of the ABOUT YOU website
  • Proactively identify and prioritize technical debt with the Product Lead, ensuring a balance between feature development and platform longevity

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of programming experience in UI or Web development
  • First experience of leading (discipline or professional) is good to have
  • Exceptional problem-solving and algorithmic thinking skills, coupled with a deep understanding of software design patterns and clean code principles
  • Expert-level knowledge and practical experience in building modern, scalable web applications using React, TypeScript, and advanced CSS/Styling techniques
  • Proven experience in analyzing and optimizing website performance, including deep knowledge of browser rendering, bundling, and techniques to achieve best-in-class Core Web Vitals and a fast user experience using tools like DataDog or similar platforms
  • Good understanding of API design principles (e.g., REST, GraphQL, etc.) and experience in architecting robust and efficient data flow between the frontend application and backend services
  • Good working knowledge of Node.js for modern frontend toolchains, build processes, and potential Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) services
  • Demonstrated ability to define and implement a robust testing strategy across Unit, Integration, and End-to-End (E2E) testing
  • Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining CI pipelines to ensure continuous code quality and stable releases
  • You act as a mentor who inspires and guides engineers to prioritize continuous growth and learning while maintaining high team productivity
  • You demonstrate proactive self-drive and take full accountability for the team’s commitments, technical outcomes, and continuous improvement

Nice to have:

  • Experience managing or deeply understanding the nuances of hosting your own application infrastructure (e.g., Cloud providers, containerization)
  • Basic understanding of database concepts and how they interact with the application layer
  • Direct experience working on high-traffic e-commerce platforms, understanding the unique challenges of inventory, checkout, and personalization at scale
  • Hands-on experience in automating development/QA workflows using AI tools is a strong bonus
