Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Manager (Solicitor) to lead a busy Litigation Department. In this hands-on leadership role, you will oversee a team of 3-4 fee earners, managing workloads, processes, and performance while also handling complex and defended legal matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled litigator with strong leadership abilities to make a real impact in a growing practice, or a step up into a management role as a career move.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage and supervise departmental workloads, task allocation, and performance
  • Conduct one-to-one meetings, monitor performance, and manage annual leave
  • Develop and update process plans for claims, mapping from inception to eviction
  • Maintain and update departmental templates and procedures
  • Ensure effective time recording and task target setting
  • Liaise with clients, defendants, courts, solicitors, and managing agents
  • Assess complaints and report to the client and Practice COLP
  • Attend legal update conferences (in person or virtually)
  • Undertake fee-earning work, including defended and complex cases (fast track, intermediate track, multi-track)
  • Draft legal documents and ensure compliance with court directions and orders
  • Issue possession claims (online and paper applications)
  • Prepare notices seeking possession, applications, and advocate/counsel instructions
  • Maintain accurate case management and status records

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 2 years' PQE (CILEX lawyers with equivalent experience considered)
  • Proven management experience, or the readiness to step into a management role
  • Strong knowledge of landlord & tenant law (or willingness to undertake in-house training)
  • Good understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules and litigation processes
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency with case management systems
  • Highly organised, with excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Ensuring files are run pro-actively and effectively to conclusion by the relevant fee earner, with appropriate deadlines met
  • Ensuring that fee earners work effectively to meet the needs of the clients and the commercial requirements of the firm, managing any identified fee earner performance or conduct issues

  • Support the Team Manager in leading a team of LVI claims handlers and ensuring a high standard of performance
  • Providing guidance and coaching to team members on claims processing, customer service, compliance, and technical issues involving quantum liability and litigation
  • Assist in managing day-to-day team activities, workflows, and performance targets
  • Responsible for a high-volume caseload of Fast Track Personal Injury RTA claims, making use of the firm’s Case Management Systems and using the agreed internal procedures and practices
  • To progress a caseload in a manner to ensure that clients receive appropriate, professional, timely and pertinent legal advice, with regular contact, whilst managing their expectations
  • To deal with cases with denial of liability and causation arguments with minimal supervision
  • To be able to assess liability and quantum to include reviewing medical reports, researching and obtaining relevant case law, drafting schedules of special damages and assessing suitable awards for compensation
  • To identify early those cases where proceedings would be tactically beneficial to litigate and to do so expeditiously
  • Take a practical but commercial approach to settlements and advising clients as to litigation/cost risks
  • To ensure that the team are achieving the right outcome for clients and optimising each client’s claim
