Job Description

Campden BRI's Sample Handling Team are the first point of contact for all samples into our business for our laboratory testing services. You will effectively manage the Sample Handling and Goods Inwards operations through: maximising staff motivation and ensuring the availability and efficient utilisation of resources/facilities, maintaining excellent service performance through allocation of daily tasks and driving operational efficiency and safe working compliance with business systems.

Job Responsibility

  • Management, allocation and monitoring of the Sample Handling and Goods In activities
  • Leadership and management of staff including recruitment, development, motivation, and efficient utilisation
  • Proactive resolution of emerging issues and communication with relevant internal stakeholders
  • Management and organisation of sample storage/retention areas
  • Liaising with clients on sample testing requirements and issues relating to samples as required
  • Working closely with the Business Managers on implementation of improved processes/workflows
  • Responsible for ensuring smooth and effective collaboration between Goods In and Sample Handling
  • Use of relevant business systems including LIMS, CRM and Focal Point for the purposes of Goods In, Sample Receipt, Preparation and Query resolution
  • Managing the delivery of samples to and liaising with sub-contractors, including monitoring charges, raising PO’s and organising couriers
  • Reviewing, updating and creating relevant procedures and working instructions for Sample Handling and Goods In
  • Participation in regular audits such as UKAS 17025 and BSI 9001

Requirements

  • Experience in client facing roles, ideally within logistics, laboratory sample handling operations
  • Experience of laboratory information management systems (e.g. Labware LIMS) and CRM systems
  • Practically minded and able to identify solutions under pressure
  • Prior experience in effective workload management
  • Competence in team leadership and management of staff and resourcing
  • Excellent computer literacy including use of standard Microsoft apps (Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Teams) and ability to quickly upskill on specific Laboratory Information Systems Software
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of ISO17025 requirements beneficial
  • Experience of manual handling and physical tasks
  • Educated to A’levels, including a Science subject, is desirable, plus 3 years of demonstrable experience in multiple skill areas in a Science or Administration position
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment responding to internal and external demands

  • Support the Senior Clinical Sample Manager overseeing end-to-end clinical sample tracking and chain of custody, maintaining real-time logs from site collection through central and specialty laboratories
  • Ensure sample integrity and compliance with stability windows, including scheduling shipments and reviewing/approving manifests for transfers between central and third-party labs
  • Support sample reconciliation across systems, identifying and resolving discrepancies to ensure data accuracy, escalating risks as needed
  • Support site start-up and ongoing operations as needed, including initiating kit shipments and maintaining accurate lab contact distribution lists, central lab SIV and ad-hock trainings
  • Support ongoing review of site supplies and ensure sites have kits for upcoming collections on site
  • Log trends and risks in sample handling (e.g., shipment deviations, site errors) and communicate proactively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the Senior Clinical Sample Manager in reviewing and maintaining central lab documentation, including lab manuals and related study documents
