Teaching Assistant - Make a Difference at an SEN School! Do you have a passion for supporting young people with autism to achieve their full potential? Are you dedicated to fostering a positive and engaging learning environment? If so, we want to hear from you! We are an SEN school in Effingham seeking a motivated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. We offer a rewarding opportunity to work with autistic students aged 11-16, who have associated behavioural and communication difficulties, in a supportive and stimulating setting.

Job Responsibility:

  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students in line with school policies
  • Providing positive behaviour support and adapting your approach to meet individual student needs
  • Building strong and trusting relationships with students, creating a safe and positive learning environment
  • Promoting independence and personal development in our students
  • Supporting the teacher in implementing engaging and differentiated learning activities
  • Preparing resources and adapting learning materials under the teacher's guidance
  • Contributing to a dynamic and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive
  • Participating in the school's behaviour support approach, including physical intervention (accredited Team Teach) where necessary and always as a last resort
  • Completing reports accurately and within designated timeframes

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN) in an employed or voluntary setting
  • A recognised qualification at Level 2 or above in Support work for Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent) is desirable
  • GCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 (or equivalent) is essential
  • A strong understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Knowledge or experience of working with pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD
  • A proven ability to provide consistent support to children with diverse needs
  • A child-centered approach, treating each student as an individual and valuing their unique strengths
  • A positive and creative approach to meeting pupils' individual needs
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues
