Job Description

We are looking for a nurturing and adaptable Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary environment in the Crawley area. The role focuses on providing one‑to‑one support for a pupil with additional needs, while also contributing to the smooth running of the wider classroom.

Job Responsibility

  • Work with a child on a 1:1 basis and support small group activities
  • Encourage positive interactions, independence and engagement
  • Assist with welfare, first aid and personal care needs where applicable
  • Provide calm, consistent strategies for behaviour and emotional support
  • Modify resources or create simple learning materials when needed
  • Prepare learning spaces and tidy resources after activities
  • Help monitor pupil progress and share observations with the teacher
  • Provide classroom support for behaviour management
  • Assist with general admin tasks such as photocopying and organising resources
  • Follow policies relating to safeguarding, confidentiality and health & safety
  • Promote inclusion and ensure pupils have equal access to learning
  • Attend relevant meetings, training sessions and CPD opportunities
  • Support supervision at break, lunch and during trips or school events

Requirements

  • A warm, patient and encouraging individual
  • Strong communication skills and a team-focused mindset
  • Flexibility and resilience when supporting children with diverse needs
  • Experience working with SEND pupils is useful but not essential
  • Confidence in supporting emotional regulation and personal care if required
  • Ability to follow structured plans and adapt tasks creatively
