We are seeking a caring and proactive Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary setting, providing one‑to‑one support for a pupil with higher‑level needs as well as general assistance within the classroom. This position involves supporting a child throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop independence, and feel confident in the school environment. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo, following guidance to ensure the pupil is given the best possible opportunities to thrive. Alongside the 1:1 element, you will contribute to wider classroom routines, assist with small groups when required, and help promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere. Midday supervision duties form part of the working day.
Job Responsibility:
Provide 1:1, small group or whole‑class support as needed
Help pupils understand instructions and access the curriculum
Encourage independence and positive behaviour using supportive strategies
Assist with personal care, first aid and welfare needs where required
Adapt or create simple resources to match individual learning needs
Prepare learning areas and assist with displays
Help with record‑keeping and reporting pupil progress to the teacher
Support behaviour management under teacher direction
Provide general admin support such as photocopying and organising resources
Follow safeguarding, health & safety and confidentiality procedures
Support inclusion and ensure all pupils have equal opportunities
Attend meetings and training sessions
Supervise pupils at break, lunchtime and during school visits
Requirements:
Someone flexible, patient and motivated
Good communication and organisational skills
A collaborative approach and willingness to learn
Experience working with children with additional needs is helpful but not essential
Ability to follow structured plans and break down learning into manageable steps
Confidence in supporting personal care, well‑being and emotional regulation
