Job Description

Manchester Secondary PRU is seeking to appoint a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant. This is a vital role providing bespoke support to pupils who face significant barriers to their learning due to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Working under the guidance of the Senior Leadership Team, you will act as a pivotal role model, helping students re-engage with education, build self-esteem, and achieve their full potential in an inclusive and safe environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Targeted Pupil Support: Working with small groups to deliver tailored interventions and therapy programmes, ensuring every child can access the curriculum safely
  • Classroom Management: Assisting teachers in managing classroom dynamics and, on occasion, supervising whole classes to ensure continuity of learning
  • Pastoral Care: Attending to the social, emotional, and physical welfare of our pupils, including implementing behaviour management strategies and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
  • Integration & Advocacy: Supporting pupils on work experience or integration placements within mainstream colleges and schools
  • Resource Management: Assisting with the planning and preparation of learning materials, including the use of ICT to enhance student independence

Requirements

  • School Experience: A minimum of 6 months' recent experience working within a UK school environment
  • Compliance: You must hold an Enhanced DBS certificate that is currently registered on the Update Service
  • SEMH Background: Previous experience supporting children or young people with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties (SEMH) or complex learning needs
  • Core Skills: Strong numeracy and literacy skills (Level 2 or equivalent)
  • Personal Attributes: Exceptional tact, diplomacy, and the resilience required to work in a challenging but highly rewarding specialist setting

What we offer

  • Professional Development: A steadfast commitment to your continuous self-development and performance management
  • Team Ethos: Join a dedicated, supportive staff team who work together to provide 'New Beginnings' for Manchester's young people
  • Purpose: The opportunity to work at the heart of an ambitious school that puts the welfare and progress of the child first
  • Pension
  • Life Insurance
