Sensory-First Approach: Help manage the environment to reduce sensory overload, ensuring students feel safe and ready to learn. Specialised Communication: Gain or use experience with PECS, Makaton, and Visual Timetables to facilitate meaningful interaction. Promoting Predictability: Use visual schedules and 'now and next' boards to reduce anxiety and help students manage transitions between activities. Supportive Interventions: Work 1:1 to deliver personalised learning tasks that align with the student's specific interests and EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) goals. Managing 'Meltdowns' with Empathy: Recognise the early signs of sensory or emotional deregulation and implement calming strategies or 'masking' breaks before a crisis occurs. Social Coaching: Facilitate structured play or social interactions, helping students develop the tools they need to build friendships and work alongside peers.
