Job Responsibility:
Instruct individuals served in activities designed to promote social, physical, intellectual and literacy growth
Provide personal care to individuals served
Teach in the areas of development: social/emotional, cognitive, motor, language and communication and self-help
Emphasize learning, literacy and social skills that promote independence and prepare for successful life transitions
Use appropriate management and modification techniques to manage behavior
Consult with supervisor to plan and implement weekly lesson plans based on individual needs and treatment plans
Follow standard frameworks for classroom set-up and curriculum implementation
Evaluate functional level of individuals using screening tools, data collection and assessments
Prepare materials and instruction aids using task analysis methods
Keep accurate records and data related to attendance, goals, guardian contact, medical needs, daily health checks, accidents
Arrange and supervise meaningful special activities
Communicate regularly with guardians, TAs/paraprofessionals, peer teachers, therapists, and supervisor
Ensure the classroom meets quality standards and state requirements for education and licensure
Collaborate with program team to provide appropriate and individualized programming and modifications for individuals with disabilities
Plan and direct classroom duties of teaching assistants
Assist with personal care including feeding, diapering/toileting
Maintain safe, orderly and clean classroom
Complete annual training hours as required
Attend initial placement conferences, teaming conferences and annual ITP or IEP meetings
Participate in an individualized staff development plan
Adhere to Easterseals Arkansas policies and procedures
Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations
Supervise one to three teaching assistants
Carry out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, planning work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, early childhood, or related field
Minimum of one (1) year of relevant classroom and/or teaching experience
In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, Associate's degree (A.D.) in education, child development, early childhood, or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant classroom and/or teaching experience
Valid Arkansas Driver's License
CPR/First Aid required within 30 days of hire
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before groups
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, smell, climb, balance, taste
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
